CEBHCP is the Canadian Examining Board of Health Care Practitioners. They are a not-for-profit institution certified by the Minister of Human Resources Canada under sections 118.5 and 118.6 of the Income Tax Act of Canada. It is a complementary health care organization which, since 1991, has set professional and measurable working standards for the fields of complementary health care. The CEBHCP has done this to promote and support effective, safe and ethical holistic health care practices. The CEBHCP also addresses complaints from the public, registered practitioners and teaching institutions. It provides medical malpractice and general liability insurance to its members as well as lobbies for their interests. www.canadianexaminingboard.com/register.htm
The CEBHCP recognizes The Bowen College’s curriculum as meeting the requirements and standards set out by the board.
Any Bowen School or teaching center can apply to the CEBHCP for equivalency. Bowen College is the only Bowen School in Canada that has met their standards.
As a member of the CEBHCP you will be able to use the designation of Certified Bowen Health Therapist, C.B.H.T. and Registered Bowen Health Practitioner, R.B.H.P., which are legally copyrighted and registered in Canada by the CEBHCP. As well, you will be recognized by a Board who will advance your benefits as a practitioner as well as making Bowen accessible to more and more patients.
"Grandfathering" is a standard practice in professions when that profession becomes more formalized and regulated. CEBHCP, in accepting The Bowen College, is granting practitioners time to register with them. If you possess a Bowen certificate from another institution or have completed any Bowen related courses, you can be grandfathered in. The new standards will be effective as of October 1, 2009. If it is your wish to do so YOU MUST REGISTER WITH THE BOWEN COLLEGE PRIOR TO OCTOBER 1, 2009.
Bowen College will accept transfer credits from the following organizations:
The cost is $270.00 before October 1, 2009, with a modest yearly fee of $100 for subsequent years. $250 is the fee that will be paid to the CEBHCP and $20 is the surcharge for all processing/administration fees.
After October 1, 2009 the requirements to join and receive Certified Bowen Health Therapist, C.B.H.T. designation will mean having to apply for equivalency for additional courses as set up by the CEBHCP and the cost will be $450.00. This will mean that the applicant must successfully complete required courses in anatomy, physiology, nutrition, palpation etc. as well as demonstrate proficiency in Bowen moves.

As a reminder, this is a free listing which is provided by Bowen College Inc. to increase the visibility of the span of Bowen Practitioners in the lobbying efforts for third party coverage.
Third party insurance benefit coverage will enable your clients to claim your fees, or a portion thereof, through their insurance coverage. The CEBHCP is active in working with companies to get insurance coverage for the professions they represent. As a Certified Bowen Health Practitioner, you will be represented by the CEBHCP. The more insurance coverage there is, the more people can come for Bowen therapy.
If insurance for Bowen is available, then more people are able to benefit from the covered services as they are for RMTs and NDs, etc.
No. Manon Bolliger applied with Bowtech’s curriculum when she was teaching for them, and was turned down as their curriculum did not meet the standards. Bowen College is the only educational institution in Canada that has enough course curriculum hours and courses reinforcing assessment skills to apply for this process on a large scale basis as of today.
No. Courses are open to all. There is no "membership" or fee to be listed on the Bowen College website. The Diploma level, is optional. The CEBHCP however requires CEU hours and these can be obtained through the courses that make up the curriculum of the Bowen College or the courses that have been approved as "electives".
Yes, Bowen College is recognized by NHPC.
The NHPC is The Natural Health Practitioners of Canada (www.nhpcanada.org)
The NHPC is dedicated to promoting the art and science of natural health practices, to serving the needs and maintaining the professional standards of natural health practitioners in Canada, and to improving health care in Canada.
NHPC currently represent about 6500 natural health practitioners throughout Canada. A principal goal of the NHPC is to provide members with continuing competency opportunities and vital information on a wide variety of issues so that they may grow professionally and improve the services they provide to clients.
NHPC provides medical malpractice and general liability insurance, professional credibility, and a strong advocacy voice.
This means that any courses that you take from The Bowen College will be eligible for CE hours.
In contacting three major insurance companies the response was:
"There is no such thing as a Registered Bowen Practitioner, we base our payments on the following registered practices. We do not worry about your scope of practice that you do under the following practices"
NOTE: this is where the CEBHCP steps in and lobbies for Certified Bowen Health Practitioners to be on this list. This doesn’t include Bowenwork Therapist, Certified Bowen Therapist or any other combination.
This is the response from NHPC to that question.
Unfortunately, we do not maintain lists of insurance companies and the therapies they reimburse. Even within one insurance company, policies differ for each company they represent. Policy coverage is negotiated between the insurance company and the corporation they provide coverage to. We have no way of knowing individual policy information.
It is an insurance a practitioner receives to cover him or herself in case of accidental harm they may cause while applying their treatment.
It is an insurance that protects a practitioner from the risk that they may be sued and held legally liable for something such as malpractice, injury or negligence. Liability insurance policies cover both legal costs and any legal payouts for which the insured would be responsible if found legally liable.
Yes. There are several insurance companies that give out malpractice liability insurance.
No – not according to CEBHCP. They state that no contact has been made.
There is no generous ‘discount.’ You pay for what you get. The grandfathering clause exists in all professions and is done in the same way. The goal is to share the benefits of what has been achieved with the profession at large and at the standards that the majority are working with. This is not elitism, nor is it a private club. The nature of grandfathering is to acknowledge experience in lieu of the NEW criteria. When programs evolve one cannot penalize unduly practitioners who are already in the field.
Tom Bowen evolved his technique throughout his life/career. The more one can understand of the functions of the human body, the more one can appreciate the depth and scope of this wonderful modality. We are adults and healers, not blind followers without heart or reason towards our patients. Much credit needs to be given to Ossie for sharing what he has learned from Tom Bowen. Nowhere is it written that Tom Bowen did not want us to get more information and keep growing as practitioners and healers.
Please read http://www.bowencollege.com/about_bowen/origins_of_bowen. to see that Ossie Rensch was not Tom Bowen's only student and that other students, though not as well-known as Ossie, taught Tom Bowen's techniques, which evolved as Tom progressed with his own understanding
.While originally the Bowen Practitioners Association of North America (BPANA) was set up to inquire about and oppose the trademark issue regarding us of the word "Bowen", the vision has grown. BPANA seeks to bring together all Bowen practitioners, regardless of school, to actively promote the Bowen Technique, to agree on standards for Bowen Practitioners, and to be the voice of Bowen practitioners in all of North America. We wish to thank all who contributed $100 or the equivalent of one Bowen session to make this happen. Once incorporation is complete, all Bowen Practitioners will be invited to join BPANA so that we can grow and be truly representative of Bowen Practitioners across North America. Currently BPANA has submitted incorporation papers as a not-for-profit corporation and is awaiting completion of paperwork.
Because incorporation took so much longer than anticipated, BCI has agreed to take over this task. All monies collected by BPANA for the Third Party Insurance benefit coverage have been forwarded to CEBHCP or BCI.
