What is third party insurance coverage? How does this relate to the CEBHCP?
Third party insurance benefit coverage will enable your clients to claim your fees, or a portion thereof, through their insurance coverage. The CEBHCP is active in working with companies to get insurance coverage for the professions they represent. As a Certified Bowen Health Practitioner, you will be represented by the CEBHCP. The more insurance coverage there is, the more people can come for Bowen therapy.
Why is Third Party Insurance Benefits so important?
If insurance for Bowen is available, then more people are able to benefit from the covered services as they are for RMTs and NDs, etc.
Is it easy to obtain third party benefit insurance for Bowen?
No. Manon Bolliger applied with Bowtech’s curriculum when she was teaching for them, and was turned down as their curriculum did not meet the standards. Bowen College is the only educational institution in Canada that has enough course curriculum hours and courses reinforcing assessment skills to apply for this process on a large scale basis as of today.
Will those who are “grandfathered in” to Bowen College now have to complete the Bowen College Diploma requirements in order to continue to be listed on the Bowen College website?
No. Courses are open to all. There is no “membership” or fee to be listed on the Bowen College website. The Diploma level, is optional. The CEBHCP however requires CEU hours and these can be obtained through the courses that make up the curriculum of the Bowen College or the courses that have been approved as “electives”.
Questions re: NHPC
Is Bowen College recognized by the NHPC?
Yes, Bowen College is recognized by NHPC.
What is the NHPC?
The NHPC is The Natural Health Practitioners of Canada ( www.nhpcanada.org)
The NHPC is dedicated to promoting the art and science of natural health practices, to serving the needs and maintaining the professional standards of natural health practitioners in Canada, and to improving health care in Canada.
NHPC currently represent about 6500 natural health practitioners throughout Canada. A principal goal of the NHPC is to provide members with continuing competency opportunities and vital information on a wide variety of issues so that they may grow professionally and improve the services they provide to clients.
What are the benefits of belonging to the NHPC?
NHPC provides medical malpractice and general liability insurance, professional credibility, and a strong advocacy voice.
If I already belong to the NHPC what does this mean to me?
This means that any courses that you take from The Bowen College will be eligible for CE hours.
Do most insurance companies recognize the Bowen Therapy through the NHPC?
In contacting three major insurance companies the response was:
“There is no such thing as a Registered Bowen Practitioner, we base our payments on the following registered practices. We do not worry about your scope of practice that you do under the following practices”
- acupuncturists
- chiropractors
- naturopaths
- osteopaths
- physiotherapists
- podiatrists/chiropodists
- psychologists
- registered massage therapists
- speech therapist
NOTE: this is where the CEBHCP steps in and lobbies for Certified Bowen Health Practitioners to be on this list. This doesn’t include Bowenwork Therapist, Certified Bowen Therapist or any other combination.
Does the NHPC have a list of insurance companies that cover Bowen?
This is the response from NHPC to that question.
Unfortunately, we do not maintain lists of insurance companies and the therapies they reimburse. Even within one insurance company, policies differ for each company they represent. Policy coverage is negotiated between the insurance company and the corporation they provide coverage to. We have no way of knowing individual policy information.
What is Malpractice Liability Insurance?
It is an insurance a practitioner receives to cover him or herself in case of accidental harm they may cause while applying their treatment.
It is an insurance that protects a practitioner from the risk that they may be sued and held legally liable for something such as malpractice, injury or negligence. Liability insurance policies cover both legal costs and any legal payouts for which the insured would be responsible if found legally liable.
Do Bowen Practitioners receive Bowen Malpractice insurance if they are members of CEBHCP?
Yes. There are several insurance companies that give out malpractice liability insurance.
How often do you provide a level 100, 101 and 102 courses to various regions in Canada?
Courses are provided depending on whether an instructor is available to teach them and if there is a great demand for them. Courses can go ahead only if there is a minimum of 8 people registered in the class. We urge people who are interested, to register for the class you want as soon as it is available therefore ensuring a greater chance that the course goes ahead as scheduled.
The course I am interested in isn’t offered on the listed schedule what do I do now?
Depending on the course you are seeking courses are offered periodically as instructors become available to those regions. If you are seeking an entrance level course Bowen College offers an online course for level 100 called 099 this is a series of video and online learning materials that teaches you everything you need to know for the first 100 level courses. After taking the course you are given a free ticket to attend a level 100 Live one day event where you will get a chance to apply what you have learned in the online version. This is a great way to start if you are eager to learn and do not wish to wait for a live event to come to your region
If you are taking a level 090, 092 level anatomy and physiology these are offered to you online, a list of the courses offered online are available to you under courses on this website.
If you are looking for NST level courses for those who have completed to a CBHT level and are looking to receive credits toward becoming an RBHP (Registered Bowen Health Practitioner) these are offered throughout the year and are taught on the basis of demand. Our instructors travel from across Canada and Internationally, some as far as Australia to give you the best possible training from the most qualified instructors available.
I have trouble with examinations and feel anxious about failing, what support does Bowen College offer?
Bowen College is not designed to have any of its students fail any of the courses provided. Instructors are available in class and by email to help you learn the technique and will assist you in your learning so you are confident before taking an exam.
I have taken courses at another institution for physiology and anatomy; do I have to take the Bowen Courses for anatomy and physiology then?
No, as long as the credits given were from a recognized accredited secondary education institution, for example a school that specializes in Registered Massage Therapy, Physiotherapy etc. If you can provide proof of a full term of Physiology and Anatomy then these beginning level courses need not apply and you can go ahead with the 100 level courses.
I have taken courses from the UK, Australia and the US can I further my training at Bowen College? Are my credits transferable?
Yes! Bowen College sets themselves apart from other institutions to provide you with the very best in training and allows you to continue your learning with us in North America no matter where your training may have taken place. If you can provide proof of completion then we are more then excited to have you join us in furthering your training.
I have completed my training with another institution outside of Canada (ie. UK, AUS, US) can I come to Canada to set up my practice?
Bowen Therapy is currently in the process of meeting the standards for third party coverage and to be recognized as a stand alone physical therapy. Until then Bowen therapists are required to work alongside other health practices. This would include RMT’s (Registered Massage Therapists), Physiotherapists, ND’s (Naturopathic Doctors).
Has there been any scientific research done on Bowen Therapy?
Yes! You can find research done on the effectiveness of the treatment in our research section of this website
Do you recommend using Bowen with other modalities, such as massage therapy, acupuncture etc.?
Bowen Therapy resets your body to allow itself to heal, with this in mind other modalities you may use are received by your body at a maximum of benefit to yourself through the use of Bowen.
